For their second home bout of the season, the Big Easy Rollergirls gave fans one hell of a nail-biter. The ladies from New Orleans took on the Jacksonville Rollergirls, and this bout was even more aggressive than the last, with both the Crescent Wenches and the Big Easy All-Stars offering quite a few hip-checks and shoves that had girls flying out of the ring. The All-Star bout went down to the final second with a tie score of 119 to 119, and the Big Easy All-Stars fought for the win in an adrenalin-filled overtime. Fans were also treated to a performance from the 610 Stompers during halftime. If you’re unfamiliar with these guys, you really need to check them out. As they say, they’re ordinary men with extraordinary moves.
I opted for the 135mm f/2.0 this time on the 50D, with the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS on the 7D and flash units on both bodies. The 135mm worked wonderfully in the dark arena and was perfect for picking up long shots across the track. While not as fast to focus as the 70-200mm, when it did lock on it produced a beautiful image. I also used the 135mm at the Southern Open Championships, and am really starting to love this lens. It’s definitely one of the better prime lenses I’ve used. I’m looking forward to playing with the primes a bit more at the next bout, on June 11th. If you’re looking for some good fun, you should come out to the track and check out the Big Easy Rollergirls in action.

I like how in this picture of my wife (and apparently your old classmate) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3544/5783770893_af601b2418_o.jpg you just barely catch me on the right side in the dark shirt and hat, sitting on the floor.
At least, I’m pretty sure that’s me.

Cool. Yep, she and I went to high school together. …If that’s you, I’m sure I caught you in the background of a few other shots as well!
