I went into the Smithwood, Inc. t-ball game expecting to get a few action shots and a couple of portraits, and left overwhelmed with cuteness. It was the perfect mix of sports and sincerity as the kids of Smithwood, Inc. dove into piles for ground balls and eagerly ran the bases. From a photography standpoint, the biggest challenge was the harsh noon sunlight… that, and trying to decide which player to focus on; they were all so excited! Given how young the players were, there was no worrying over maintaining a high shutter speed, and the midday light allowed the lowest ISO speed possible. I shot mostly from the dugout, which gave me the chance to capture not only the batters, but a few nice candids as the kids waited their turn. The players in the field were also fun. For every few that were racing to catch a hit and throw to first, there were one or two who decided to stop and play in the grass. It was definitely a change from shooting college ball.
