Softball: SLU vs. SFA

Southeastern came out on top in the three-game series against Stephen F. Austin during the weekend of April 22. The series was highlighted by strong hits by the Lady Lions, including a three-run home run by junior Meghan Gomez, and seven strike outs from sophomore pitcher Kenna Terry. With the exception of some pop flies and a couple of slides, my attention stayed mostly on the batter’s box and pitcher’s mound. (more…)

Big Easy Rollergirls vs. BHRG

Packs of girls sporting fishnets, makeup, and decorated protective gear skated and shoved their way around the track at UNO’s Human Performance Center during the opening bout of the Big Easy Rollergirls’ season. Though they suffered a tough loss at the hands of Bloomington, Indiana’s Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls, they put up a fight and put on a great show for the packed stands, and had me wanting to put down my camera and strap on a pair of skates. Smithwood, Inc. T-Ball

I went into the Smithwood, Inc. t-ball game expecting to get a few action shots and a couple of portraits, and left overwhelmed with cuteness. It was the perfect mix of sports and sincerity as the kids of Smithwood, Inc. dove into piles for ground balls and eagerly ran the bases. From a photography standpoint, the biggest challenge was the harsh noon sunlight… that, and trying to decide which player to focus on; they were all so excited! (more…)

Swamp Bowl IV

Swamp Bowl IV_IMG_6540

The fourth annual Swamp Bowl was held on April 15, and it was as grimy and glorious as ever. The volleyball tournament, taking place in three side-by-side water-filled mud pits, draws students from all across campus to compete in filth for the winning title and a nice sized trophy. Swamp Bowl always makes for great pictures, and this year was no exception. (more…)

All-South Karate Championships

Sensei Deddy Mansyur, kata

The 47th annual All-South Karate Championships were held at UNO in New Orleans, and the day was filled with amazing displays of Shotokan Karate. Competitors from all across the southern region of the U.S. came to showcase their skills in kata and kumite, from white belts to black, and from kids to adults. The tournament was exciting, and provided me with a variety of shots from four different rings of action. (more…)
